In the North Pacific, an area of plastic trash the size of France has formed, but countries around the world have ignored it as it doesn't directly effect them.

Idea

Make the island of trash impossible to ignore by turning the island of trash into a sovereign nation.

Execution

Submit an application to the UN to recognise The Trash Isles as an official country, forcing other nations to get involved due to a loophole in UN policy that requires countries to get involved.

Notes

Brilliant way to bring attention to a problem that noone takes responsibility for. Fun and engaging at It’s core, but with a serious message.
