Piano Staircase

Changing human behaviour is incredibly hard to do, but if you make something fun the results can be astonishing.

Idea

Prove eco-friendly choices can be joyful by transforming the stairs of a train station into a piano.

Execution

Get people to choose the stairs at a train station over the escalator by installing piano keys on them, to prove the theory around fun encouraging behaviour change.

Notes

My favourite of all the Fun Theory executions. Surprisingly, the website that went viral is still up. I love how much credit this gives the audience. The Fun Theory borders on meta, unpacking behaviour change techniques and shows what's behind the curtain in a way that doesn't treat the audience like idiots.
